This Week's Shining Stars!

This week was a tricky one---there were only THREE kids in the running to be a Shining Star, this week! Audrey & Serene did a fantastic job, and the honorable mention goes out to Ethan (who just earned the title, last week!) for an excellent job! We reviewed the criteria as a class--all of the kids remembered what needs to be done. Guess it was just one of those weeks!

This Week's Shining Stars!

Congratulations to these two super students on a job well done! They both remembered to use the "rules of title writing," read (and record) for 15 minutes or more (wow, Ethan!), have their logs signed, and turn them in! An honorable mention goes out to Jacob...poor kid, he was "almost" the Shining Star, and "almost" the winner of an impromptu handwriting contest we had in the classroom. The real reward for all of the kids, of course, is how well they are doing! Keep up the great work!

This Week's Shining Stars!

Congratulations to Charlotte & Serene! Surprisingly, there were only nine kids in the running, today! They all remembered to read for at least fifteen minutes, complete their logs, making sure to follow the "rules of title writing," and turn them in. Keep on working toward your best, kids!

This Week's Shining Stars!

Congratulations to Melody & Moira on a job well done! Reading Logs from both girls were super neat (they used the handwriting lines as they were meant to be used), they read for 15 minutes or more, AND they used the "rules of title writing!" They should both be very proud of themselves for such outstanding work and for doing their best to meet our new expectations!

This Month's Mystery Reader!

The clues led Serene to guess her mom immediately and there were no other guesses! What fun it was to listen to the 'Old Lady' books!

We had an extra treat, too--we've been learning about holidays around the world, and Serene's mom volunteered to teach us about a holiday that their family celebrates-Diwali, which is The Festival of Lights in India. The kids had lots of great questions, and it was awesome to learn about this holiday from a real live person who actually celebrates!

Last Week's Shining Stars!

Congratulations to Addy & Ethan! They've been hearing all about the "rules of tile writing," and they tried and succeeded at following those rules on last week's log! What invested learners! This week, we "officially" studied and practiced these rules. We'll continue to do so in class, and at home, the children should be attempting them on their Reading Logs. From now on, to be "in the running" for Shining Stars, this skill must be attempted, each week. The students will be able to tell you the rules, but if you need a refresher, it goes like this:
*First letter

*Four letters or more OR important words

*Finally, underline the title

It's exciting to see the kids practice this skill that will last a lifetime!
